New Edition of “O’Ceagan’s Legacy” Cover Reveal

Hello, Folks,

I know I haven’t posted in a month of Sundays and maybe longer.  Life has been busy with various projects. One of them was revising “O’Ceagan’s Legacy.” It’s been 10 years since I first wrote the book, even though it didn’t publish until 2016, so technically next year is the 10 -year anniversary, Still, I wanted to revise the book and give it a fresh look with a new cover.

So, today is the cover reveal day! Here’s the intriguing new cover for this adventurous and exciting story of Grania O’Ceagan and her brothers on the space freighter Mo Chroidhe.  That’s Irish for “my heart.”

An ancient banshee in space—  Can Grania navigate the stars and spirits?

Captain Grania O’Ceagan and her crew are no strangers to peril, but when a routine cargo run turns into a nightmare, even they aren’t prepared for what awaits. A malfunctioning jump gate leaves them adrift, while a ghostly manifestation—identified as a banshee—offers cryptic warnings of danger ahead. As ancient myths resurface and unseen forces close in, Grania must rely on her wits, her crew, and the wisdom of her ancestors to survive a journey that could reshape her destiny forever.

The revised version of O’Ceagan’s Legacy releases on February 26th. It’s available for pre-order now at just 99-cents! Every sale and review will help me launch this book into the stratosphere. It will also be available on Kindle Unlimited.

Teaser Excerpt

Here’s a short teaser from the book:

Just then Nansi came onto the bridge, her eyes locked straight on the monitor screens. “Well, this is shite, isn’t it? Liam has an engine down, and it looks like we’re off the map completely.”

“Yep,” Grania agreed. “Have you ever seen anything like this?”

“Seen it? No. If it is what I’m thinking it is, then I’ve heard tales and it’s not good.”

Grania stepped close and lowered her voice. She didn’t want to alarm her brothers until she knew more about the situation and their options. “Tell me quietly.”

“The stories say there are areas in space that are just empty –“

“Black holes?” Grania asked in a low breath, fearful of the answer.

“No, not that. But stretches of space where there are no stars, no planets, just nothing. They’re difficult to navigate and com signals don’t penetrate through them.”

“And that’s where you think we are? In one of these empty spaces?”

“Aye, that I do. The Sea of Darkness, it’s called by the old storytellers.”

“So, tell me, what is the bad news then?”

“Well, the storytellers say that once something goes into the sea, it doesn’t come out again.” Nansi’s voice rasped with strain as she whispered this.

“Nonsense! If nothing ever came out, then how would anyone know anything about it? If that is what this is, there is a way out and we will find it. I will not lose my granda’s ship in this Black Sea.” Grania’s heart sank a little, although she would not show it to her crew. They would figure this out, and they would get back on track to home.

Nansi just nodded, a hint of hope showing in her eyes. For all her second’s years as a spacer, Grania knew the old tales still frightened her. Although fearful herself, as captain, she had to show strength and confidence, not only for Nansi but for the rest of the crew as well.

Vilnius strode in, came to a halt, and gazed around the bridge, his eyes locking on the forward screen before slowly shifting to each of the other ones. Those big black, empty-looking images of nothing were an immediate draw, she admitted. Only she had entered the bridge without looking at them. What did that say about her?

“Are the screens down?” Vilnius asked.

Thanks for reading today!

It’s been how long?

Wow! I can’t believe I haven’t made an update in almost six months! While I don’t update frequently, I try to do it more often than this. I hope all of you are staying well during this pandemic. While I am a stay-at-home writer, I have not been as productive as I’d hoped to be during this time.

With smoke blowing in from the California fires, it’s tough to wrap my mind around creative writing or any writing, for that matter. My book that I had planned to release in May or June, it is now delayed until 2021. I’ve gone through three edits on it, but I’m giving it one more pass with my critique partners before I publish, so that is taking time. But I would rather put out a better book than rush it.

So, Splintered Time, the second book in the Time Threads series, is now scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2021. But I do have a gorgeous cover for it, done by the wonderfully talented Barb Hoeter at Coverinked. So, if you haven’t been on my Facebook page and seen it already, that’s it on the right side. I am so thrilled with this cover and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Book Giveaways

Once again, I have two books in two separate giveaways on Prolific Works. They are both previews with about one-third of the books in the download and a sale on through September to purchase the books at 50% off, if you want to read the whole book.  Over 40 books are in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Giveaway while about 30 are in the Heroes, Romance, and Time Travel one. Check out both of them to possibly find some new writers to read.

November’s Nano Project

NaNoWriMo is coming up in November – after doing July’s Camp – and I have my project picked out for it. Incredibly it’s been four years since I released O’Ceagan’s Legacy and the second book is long past due, so I’ve been working on the plot for that and plan to write it in November with an eye to releasing it in toward the end of August 2021. I have a cover picked out that is similar to the original novel and I’ll be posting that about the time I begin writing the book. I love having the cover when I write since I make it the background on my computer screen , and it inspires me throughout the writing.

Happy Holidays and New Year Plans

And little cat wit her eyes all aglow waits for Santa Claws to arrive. Christmas 1995

Another year has almost flown and we’re fully into the celebrations of the season.  However, you celebrate, I hope that your holidays are filled with love, joy and lots of good food.

It has been a very good year for me as a writer.  My romantic alter ego, Riona Kelly, just published Bitter Vintage, a suspense romance novel set in the California vineyards in 1964.  I don’t think it’s too much of a secret that I use pen names.  So, if any of you like suspense romance, check this one out.  It’s a fun, fast-moving tale of intrigue, greed and treachery among the grapevines.

The other side of it is that I’m now free to move ahead with the first rewrite of my next Funeral Singer novel, A Song for Menafee.  I completed the first draft in November and I’m ready to tackle the next phase of it.  I have a little research to do and then I’ll be moving ahead.  Right now, I am targeting publication in mid-June.  So, be patient, more tales of Gillian and her friends are on the way.

legacy-neelaban-100-smallMore immediately, I am planning the release of my long-delayed science fiction fantasy novel, O’Ceagan’s Legacy.  From Pynhavyn Press, we’ve just revealed the cover and I adore it.  I think it captures the spirit of the story, pun intended, beautifully.  The novel touches on Irish legends and brings you along for an unusual and exciting ride with a spacer family from Erinnua (New Ireland) on their merchant freighter, the Mo Croidhe.  The planned release date is March 12, 2016, so it will be along soon.

Work continues on my Young Adult novels, a series called Isles of Magic and the first book is written and resting a bit before I tackle the rewrite.  It’s no secret that I love the Celtic lands, particularly Ireland and Wales, so this series of books will take you to these lovely places.  The plan is to publish the first of the books in 2016.

Thanks for sticking with me this year.  I hope your holiday stockings are filled with delightful, mysterious and wonderful good books to read.
